BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus City Council convened for its regular meeting on Tuesday evening, where the issue of paying outgoing Safety Service Director Jeff Wagner accrued sick leave was tabled until the December 19th meeting.
Citizens Carolyn Shireman and Vicki Dishon raised questions about the city’s obligations and policies regarding the documentation of Wagner’s sick time. Law Director Brian Gernert clarified that the city is contractually obligated to pay Wagner according to the Manpower Act, adopted annually by the council. The funds will be equally derived from the general fund, water fund, street fund, and sewage disposal fund.
Councilman Kevin Myers suggested postponing the vote to allow time for citizens’ questions to be researched and answered. A vote to approve the police, dispatcher, and Chief contracts was also postponed until December 19th, as the final contracts are not yet back from the respective attorneys.
In other council news, newly and re-elected city officials will be sworn into office on December 19th at 6pm, prior to the regularly scheduled council meeting, with Judge Pat Murphy presiding. The Health and Safety Committee referred legislation to add a repeat offender provision to the Property Maintenance Code, allowing the city to move to immediate prosecution for any property owner who receives the same violation on the same property within a two-year period. Violators can be fined up to $1,000 in municipal court.
Councilwoman C. Aaron Sharrock reminded the council of the annual Santa Parade and Candlelight Christmas, which will be held in downtown Bucyrus this coming Thursday, with the Santa Parade beginning at 6pm.
