MOUNT GILEAD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — A state trooper who has served at the Mount Gilead Post since 2018 has been named the 2023 Trooper of the Year for both the post and the Columbus District.

Trooper Robert P. Myers received the honor in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership, ethics, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Myers, who is originally from Massillon and a graduate of Jackson High School, has also received several other awards during his career, including the Criminal Patrol Award, the Ace Award for stolen vehicles, and the Health and Fitness Award. He also became a Drug Recognition Expert this year after completing a rigorous training course.

Myers and his wife, Amanda, live in Delaware County with their two children. He is now in the running for the State Trooper of the Year award, which will be announced later this year.
