CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District has announced a series of events for the community to engage with nature and contribute to the preservation of local wildlife.

The first event, Fall Bird Banding, will take place on Saturday, November 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, located at 2401 State Route 598. The event aims to provide insights into bird populations that remain in or migrate to Crawford County for the winter. Bob Placier will lead the event, setting up nets to capture and observe the birds present during this season. The event promises fun for all ages.

Autumn Olive, is one of the local invasive plants.

Simultaneously, the Space Invaders event will be held at Sandusky Headwaters Preserve, located at 2400 State Route 598, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. This event focuses on combating invasive plant species like honeysuckle and multiflora rose that threaten native plants and local wildlife. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and loppers to help eliminate these invaders from the preserve’s woodlands. Afterward, Land Manager Mike will incinerate the removed plants using his flamethrower. This event is an excellent opportunity for those seeking volunteer hours.

On Tuesday, November 7, at 5 p.m., the Little Explorers: Turkeys program will be held at Lowe-Volk Park. This interactive program is designed for young children aged 0-5 and focuses on stimulating infants’ senses and developing toddlers’ and preschoolers’ fine motor skills. This month’s theme is turkeys, where children will explore their colors, textures, behaviors, and sounds. A live turkey will also be present for an up-close experience.
