Two area organizations announced that they had joined forces to help provide services for local senior citizens at Crestline’s Village Council Monday evening.

Su Rowles, former executive director of the NOAH Project along with Duana Patton, CEO of the District 5 Agency on Aging, announced the merging of both entities to the Crestline Village Council Monday. The duo said that the merger would continue the mission that the NOAH Project started. Those with questions should call Terry Kerr or the District 5 Agency on Aging.

Crestline citizen Dave Duncan spoke before Council Monday night with more questions about the Crestline Police Department Duncan asked if the Crestline Police Department had access to shotguns after an article alleged that the police department didn’t have such access. Mayor Dave Sharrock explained that numerous shotguns are in need of repair, with a few needing replaced, but use of the weapons is under the discretion of Crestline Police Chief Joseph Butler.

During his report Butler announced that the Crestline Police Department had received phone calls concerning two scams. The first scam dealt with the IRS calling a Crestline citizen about sending money to the resident. Butler explained that the IRS does not make phone calls to people in this manner.

The second scam dealt with a citizen receiving a phone call on a pending court case asking the citizen to pay the fines to get out of having a warrant issued for his arrest. Butler explained that if a warrant is issued the police department will not call that individual prior to serving the warrant.

Council member Gene Toy continued to press Mayor David Sharrock about disciplinary action regarding Butler and remarks attributed to the chief in a recent newspaper article. Toy considers Butlers comments to be critical of the village.

Sharrock said he and Butler had discussed the article. During their meeting Sharrock said that Butler had been misquoted on a few quotes including the part about the police needing a proper union. Everything attributed to Butler in the article had been discussed in council and committee meetings and as such was a matter of public record.
