ONTARIO — The Humane Society of Richland County (HSRC) has received an outpouring of support from the community in response to a distressing animal abuse case. As of the latest update, $16,208 has been donated by 275 people to assist with the costs associated with caring for the animals found on Saturday.
According to reports from HSRC and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, two individuals have been arrested and 80 animals were removed from a residence in Richland County. The authorities discovered a concerning situation involving four children, firearms, marijuana, and syringes. Due to the conditions of the home and the proximity of the children to the animal abuse, the suspects have been charged with child endangerment. The identities of the arrested individuals and the address of the incident have not yet been disclosed.
The animals, mostly full-grown dogs, some of which are pregnant, along with puppies, two monkeys, and fish, were rescued by humane agents. HSRC has enlisted the assistance of their dedicated staff and veterinarians to assess the condition of the animals. Currently, the animals will not be available for adoption or public viewing, as this remains an active humane agent case.
Katie Crall, HSRC Board President, acknowledged the overwhelming support from the public and addressed the most common question received: “How can I help?” Crall emphasized that monetary donations are currently the most impactful way to contribute. Each animal requires specific needs and extensive medical care, and financial assistance ensures that these needs are met promptly.
For those who wish to contribute, donations can be made through the HSRC website at adoptourstrays.com/, their Facebook page at facebook.com/adoptourstrays, or by mailing a contribution to the shelter at HSRC, 3025 Park Ave West, Mansfield, Ohio 44906.
