Buckeye Central Schools and Crawford Park District will be hosting a community work day from 8 a.m. to noon on May 2 to continue development of the district’s Outdoor Learning Lab on campus and in the 10.5 acre woodlot.

submitted bc learnign lab 2Interested volunteers, including students and community members, are invited to bring hand tools to clear brush from the existing trails in the woods, and remove deadfall to build hedgerows and corridors for small mammal habitat. Observation sites will be established within the woods for students and community members to enjoy a natural setting for school work, classes, and a quiet space to read, create art or meditate.

We will also be building and installing birdhouses and feeders on the property and removing invasive species from the bioswale in front of the school building.

If you’re interested in participating, please contact Marianne Williamson at mwilliamson@bcbucks.org, or just show up with your work clothes and tools at the OLL pavilion located northeast of the student parking lot. Refreshments will be provided.

The BC Outdoor Learning Lab is a result of generous donations from GE Volunteers, GE Lighting’s Bucyrus Lamp Plant, Community Foundation for Crawford County, North Central Electric’s People Fund, Buckeye Central Endowment Fund, Attica Lumber and volunteer foreman Jim Wilhelm, and the BC Class of 2018.
