The Bucyrus United Methodist Church along with its Trustees, Mayor Roger Moore and many other townspeople shared the exciting moment for the ground breaking of the church’s newest addition this past weekend.

The Bucyrus United Methodist Church was a merger of the three area Methodist churches. The church will be adding on to the building located on South Walnut Street.

Chairman of the Trustees Phil Harris explains a little bit more. “The addition at this building at 227 S. Walnut St. is for basically a new entrance and a drop off to assist people as they come by and deliver to church and drop off come into the building in inclement weather,” said Harris. “There will be a covering over that so they cannot get wet. There will be a lift in there, an elevator type lift.”

There will also be a stairway leading down to three classrooms. In the lower level of the church will be new restrooms for men and women as well as a coatroom.

Harris added that the expected completion date has been set for January 2014.

The current work on the roof is expected to be completed by this October. Bucyrus UMC contracted with Studer-Obringer from New Washington for the roof work.
