MARION—Crawford County now has received reports that a massive temporary layoff is looming at the Whirlpool Corporation in Marion.

Just one day after employees were set to return to work from a temporary shutdown that was caused by chain supply shortages, employees received an email asking for a voluntary 400 layoffs.

Chad Parks from the Whirlpool Corporation offered an explanation for the voluntary temporary layoffs.

Parks told Crawford County Now on Saturday:

Our 15,000 U.S. manufacturing employees in our nine plants across the U.S. have been working tirelessly to meet consumer needs. Like other companies across the globe, Whirlpool Corporation is impacted by macro and geopolitical events leading to operational disruptions and constraints. To align our production schedule to the current supply-restrained environment, we previously scheduled down days for all hourly employees at our Marion operations in early June and are currently in the process of voluntary, temporary layoffs for some staff. We are focused on overcoming these challenges and to provide for our consumers who need our appliances to clean, cook and provide proper food and medicine storage in their homes.

Employees were allegedly told that if they did not accept a voluntary layoff, they would commence with a layoff determined by clock number.

Crawford County Now will continue to cover this developing story.
