BUCYRUS—On Sunday, around midnight, Bucyrus Police officers were involved in a second high-speed pursuit in as many weeks.
Randy Bowman, 40, of Bucyrus, was stopped for an obstructed license plate and a broken tail lamp. When questioned by Lt. Wolfe, Bowman provided a false name, and eventually sped from the area of Circle K on North Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus.
Mr. Bowman led Bucyrus Police officers and an Ohio State Patrol trooper on a chase involving speeds of over 100 mph, and eventually crashed into a telephone pole around State Routes 4 and 103, in the Chatfield area.
After a short foot pursuit, Officer Noah Graves was able to tackle Bowman, who was found to be in possession of a hammer and ignored officers’ commands to stop fighting with them. Officers deployed a Taser, but it had no effect on Bowman.
Officers were finally able to free Bowman’s grip of the hammer and take him into custody on several misdemeanors and felony counts; including a warrant for Failure to Register as a sexual offender, and Felony Fleeing and Eluding.
No innocent people were injured, and Bowman was treated and released from Bucyrus Community Hospital. He is currently incarcerated at the Crawford County Justice Center, awaiting a hearing.
