BUCYRUS—Dalton Close, 28, of Marion, was arraigned from the Crawford County Jail on Monday. He faces a thirteen count indictment after he broke into, vandalized, and robbed three area businesses. If convicted, he could face more than ten years in prison.
According to allegations, Close also stole a firearm during the two-week crime spree. Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Close’s behalf. Close told the court that he had retained Marion attorney, Todd Anderson, to represent him.
Judge Leuthold took several factors into consideration in setting Closes’bond. Leuthold noted that not only were the crimes back to back over a two-week period but that Close went back and robbed the same businesses over and over. The fact that he stole a firearm during the spree added to the factors considered in the setting of his bond.
Leuthold set Close’s bond at $75,000.
In other court news, a warrant was issued for the arrest of LaTasha Smith, 35, of Bucyrus after she failed to appear for a Pretrial hearing. Smith is charged with theft, a fourth-degree felony punishable with up to 18 months in prison.
Smith had two previous continuations after she provided medical documentation to the court. However, on Monday, she simply did not appear, did not provide medical documentation, and did not contact her attorney.
