BUCYRUS—It was a busy Monday In Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Alexandria Cain, 22, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the third degree punishable with up to 36 months in prison. As part of a negotiated plea agreement, the charge was amended from a second-degree felony to a third-degree felony and all other charges dropped.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold agreed to the plea. He sentenced Cain to 36 months in prison with a possible judicial release after serving six months in prison. Upon judicial release, Cain will go into a community-based correctional facility to complete a drug treatment program.
Cain’s attorney, Emily Beckley, noted that this is her client’s first crime.

Judge Leuthold recognized that but went on to address it with Cain.

“Methamphetamines are very dangerous drugs. You’re a young person, and this is your first conviction. If this were still a second-degree felony, you’d be looking at eight years in prison. The plan is you do prison, and we get you some help. You’ve got to kick this problem. Nothing good is going to happen in your life till you do. Have a good attitude, and we will see you soon.” Leuthold said.

Cain will forfeit all drug-related property, including a cell phone. She will receive 61 days of jail time credit.

Mathew Watkins, 40, of Galion, pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control. Watkins was placed on community control after he pleaded guilty to felony child non-support, a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

According to probation officer Eric Bohach, as of March, Watkins failed to report for office visits, failed to report his residence, and failed to report employment.

Judge Leuthold sentenced Watkins to a flat-six months in prison. He told Watkins he would not oppose transit control if the prison requested it. Watkins was given a report date of July 7th at 7:30. Watkins is to report to the Crawford County Jail for transport to prison.

Gary Murphy, 57, address unknown, pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control.

Murphy was placed on community control in 2016 after he pleaded guilty to theft, a felony of the fourth degree punishable with up to 18 months in prison. Murphy was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the victim.

In August 2016, Murphy was granted Judicial Release and placed on community control.

According to probation officer Eric Bohach, as of January 2020, he failed to report for office visits, failed to provide an address, and has not made payments on the restitution, still owing the victim $12,982.00.

Judge Leuthold reimposed the 15-month prison sentence on Murphy. Leuthold said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.
