GALION—At Tuesday’s city council meeting, there was a public hearing regarding amending R-1D zone district.
Amending Section 1137.01 and 1137.05 of the City of Galion’s codified ordinances concerning the R-1D zoning district. It amends the purpose and conditional uses. For the uses, it adds where the property can have other things besides residential, and for conditional uses, it allows for some parcels to have frontage on the state highway, such as retail stores and shops, food retail, etc.
The property in question is on St. Rte. 19 where the former Wesley Chapel is between Oliver St. and Smith St.
Mr. Shane Peck is looking to open a jewelry repair store, with potential plans to be a jewelry retail store in the future.
Peck’s business is currently in Bucyrus, but he is looking to relocate to the location in Galion.
Ordinance 2020-65, the ordinance dealing with rezoning the property, was passed with an emergency clause in order to get the process done as soon as possible.
Towards the end of the meeting, Mayor Tom O’Leary commented on Auditor Treisch’s resignation announcement earlier this week, saying, “In everyone’s mind who is fair-minded, we have, as a city government, exceeded expectations, and Brian’s role in that has been pretty important. I remember the notion that we were going to be at a fiscal emergency in a few months or weeks back in 2013. I think that when those of us arrived, we realized that it was going to be much further in the future. I just want to acknowledge Brian’s efforts in that.”
Council president, Carl Watts, also commented on Treisch’s retirement, thanking him for his years of service and dedication to his job.
