The Crawford County Farm Bureau wants to make farm life a personal experience for everyone who comes out to the 157th edition of the Crawford County Fair.

“We wanted to let people know we have a whole schedule of events and they don’t just have to come one time,” said Brenda Kocher of the Farm Bureau. “If it’s raining, we’ll have something for them to do even if it is crappy outside.”

farm bureau 1The Farm Bureau is sharing the Whetstone Building on the fairgrounds with cooperating sponsors and hosting various interactive exhibits for people of all ages with the goal of helping them understand where their food comes from and what it takes to be an agricultural producer.

“This is the first time we have been in that building for several years, said Tim Hicks, Organization Director for the Farm Bureau in Crawford, Delaware, Marion, Morrow and Richland counties. “We wanted to reinvigorate this building for agricultural education.”

“We’ve hired three interns to act as fair ambassadors,” Hicks added.

Two of those interns were already busy the Friday prior to the fair opening on Sunday getting some of those exhibits ready. One of the exhibit areas will be a miniature arena for the kids to rope model steers.

“Things we have going on this year are things fairgoers have never seen in the past,” Rose Hartschuh said. “We have several interactive displays such as a model milk cow and a beef puzzle. The things that are hands on and people can come in and take a turn at those activities. We also have an i-pad station where we have agricultural games throughout the week.”

Fairgoers can tag #FBattheFair in their photos each day on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for an opportunity to win prizes. Those photos will be on display every day in the Farm Bureau’s booth in the Whetstone Building.
