BUCYRUS—A Bucyrus business owner used her time productively during the state’s pandemic-related quarantine in March and April to revamp the business she had recently purchased and to prepare for her grand opening.
Brittany Hunt purchased the Heat Wave Tanning Salon, located at 118 E. Charles St., Bucyrus, in January.
“I had just gotten started as a new business owner when I had to close due to COVID. At first, I was upset about it but then found the positive in the time I had to paint the lobby area and refresh the salon,” said Hunt.
Hunt bought the business from Charity Wagner who had purchased it from its original owner, Tamara Johnson, who opened the popular tanning salon in 1996.
“This was an opportunity that was brought to me and I wanted to try to something new to see where it takes me,” said Hunt.
Hunt said she sometimes brings her two children, ages three and seven, with her to the salon.
“Everyone has gotten to know them and ask where they are at when they are not here,” said Hunt.
The salon is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The business is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
“I offer a total of five tanning beds; two regular ones, two stand-ups and one mega bed. I also offer monthly specials and have tanning lotions and moisturizers available for purchase,” said Hunt.
A ribbon-cutting will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at the business by the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce and the public is invited to attend.
