Merchants turned downtown Bucyrus into a party atmosphere at lunchtime Friday.

Starting at 11 AM and running until 1 PM participating merchants in the 200 block of Sandusky Avenue held their fourth annual block party.

The Family Video parking lot turned into a cookout for the block party, offering a bratwurst dinner with the bratwurst provided by Bratworks, Wyandot Popcorn donated chips, and Morning Glory Bakery supplied the cookies for the meal for the cost of a simple donation.

Roger Miller who worked the grills explained where the proceeds from the donations of the block party will go saying, “Anything raised today goes to the Bucyrus Little Theatre. So we felt that was the worthy cause. It’s our fourth year. We’ve done Little League, we’ve done the Salvation Army, we’ve given to the Wounded Warrior Project and then this year we are giving to the Bucyrus Little Theatre.

Liz Dolan Treasurer for the Bucyrus Little Theatre explained what the donations from the block party would be used for saying, “They are going to be used to help us with our capital campaign. Right now we are having a new building built; we had our old costume house tore down. Nigh Brothers is building our new building for us, and we will store costumes in there. And this will help us complete that project.

Miller explained Why the block party was started saying, “This was started four years ago when the construction project had Sandusky Avenue closed down, and the merchants were having a hard time getting customers to their front doors. At the time we wanted to let the customers know that we were still down here. So we decided that we were going to have a cookout, and accept donations for a local charity.”

The bratwurst dinner wasn’t the only place to donate. Merchants held games with door prizes, including a duck pond, Plinko. Shops also had snacks including Ice cream, and pop corn.
