A word to the wise and if not the wise then those who are vandalizing the Nevada Village Park: next time someone may be watching.
Vandalism at the park was a main topic of discussion for the Nevada Village Council at Monday’s meeting. Council member Richard Awbrey says the village is making an effort to keep things cleaned up at the park and that means controlling the vandalism.
“We’re having some vandalism problems at this time, nothing tremendous, but being tee-peed and different things like that,” Awbrey said. “Somebody has to clean it up and do it and it just takes up a lot of time. We’re looking at putting some cameras up, looking at the price of that and seeing about prosecuting people that do vandalism.”
Awbrey noted that some time has passed since the village put money into the park and the council would like to spruce it up and make it more attractive. Part of that effort would include new equipment for the park.
Council also discussed the issue of high grass and has sent warning letters to property owners in violation of the village ordinance. In cases where the situation continues, the village solicitor and county auditor will take the necessary steps to collect money from property owners to pay labor costs for mowing.
The village also has a grant to tear down one abandoned building per year for three years. The village’s compost pile at the water plant will remain closed until further notice due to abuse from non-residents.
