BUCYRUS―The Bucyrus Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 900 block of Whetstone Street Wednesday night t 11:01 p.m.
According to the fire department’s report, firefighters arrived at 902 Whetstone St., at 11:07 p.m. A fire was discovered in the crawl space of the home.
Bucyrus Police were called to the scene when the residents of the home refused to vacate the home while firefighters attempted to put out the fire.
“A fireplace in the home was being utilized when the fire began in the floor joists of the crawl space. It appears to have been an accident,” said Greg Hershey of the fire department.
Members of the Crawford County American Red Cross were on hand to assist the residents of the home. No injuries were reported and the estimated damage to the structure is about $3,000.
Firefighters cleared the scene of the fire at 1:40 a.m.
