BUCYRUS — Two people are facing charges in Crawford County Municipal Court after fleeing from a crash early Saturday morning.
According to a report by the Bucyrus Police Department, officers assisted troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol in the 200 block of Hayes Avenue in investigating a crash that had occurred on Kirchbaum Road.
“The Patrol was investigating a crash in which a vehicle had entered a ditch then crashed into a tree stump,” Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke said. “The driver and a passenger fled the scene then reported the vehicle stolen to our department later that day.”
The vehicle owner, Cloie Smith, 20, Bucyrus, was located in the 200 block of Hayes Avenue.
“The officer noticed that she had minor injuries from the crash,” Koepke said.
Smith was cited for falsification and leaving the scene of an accident. After investigation of the incident, a passenger in her vehicle at the time of the crash, Shannon Jackson, 28, Bucyrus, also was cited for falsification.
In a follow-up to the investigation involving unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police arrested Jackson at 4:36 p.m. Sunday on a Crawford County warrant. He was given a court date to appear and released.
Both Smith and Jackson are due in traffic court Wednesday.
