BUCYRUS — Representatives from Brandstetter Carroll, the City of Bucyrus’ architectural and engineering firm, came to the Bucyrus City Council Joint Committee meeting Thursday evening to request approval to start the bidding process for the next phase of the storm- sewer separation project.
Bruce Brandstetter said the project is scheduled to begin in late fall from Washington Street near Suburban Lanes to Winchester Avenue. Legislation will be created for the next regular council meeting to be voted on by the entire council.
Also during the meeting, a transfer of ownership of a liquor license for Smokey’s Tobacco and Brew was approved by the health and safety committee along with several traffic control map changes.
Council members Bruce Truka and Doug Foght were appointed to be the representatives for council in the Citywide Community Reinvestment Area board by the economic development committee.
City law director Rob Ratliff proposed a bicycle rack be purchased by the city to be placed at Bucyrus City Hall. He also suggested bike racks should be placed near Picking Park and at Schines Art Park.
“I would consider buying them myself if I have to,” Ratliff said. “I just think we need them after seeing the large amount of bikes at the police auction last week.”
Mayor Jeff Reser spoke up and said he would purchase a bike rack and Truka said he would purchase another.
The public lands and building committee approved legislation for a bicycle rack to be purchased to be placed at city hall.
A proposal for a local attorney to take ownership and liability of the Pines Reservoir is up for discussion again. Ratliff said Pat Murphy has agreed to the terms the city would have to meet to be able to transfer the ownership.
The public lands and building committee adjourned into an executive session to discuss the sale of property with city officials with no action being taken after the session.
The next city council meeting is Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.
