The Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office expects to file charges this week in connection with the death of a 68-year-old Galion man.
Frederick Saunders Sr. died Wednesday at the Galion Community Hospital where he was taken by family members on Tuesday evening. His death has been ruled a homicide after an autopsy performed by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office revealed the cause of death to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.
Thirty-six-year-old Frederick Saunders Jr. was taken into custody on Thursday by Galion police following an investigation of the Saunders’ home on South Union Street. The younger Saunders is in custody at the Crawford County Justice Center.
The elder Saunders suffered from Alzheimer’s and lived in the same home as his son and other family members in Galion. He went missing for three days in late August and was eventually located in Marion at a relative’s home.
