A five-year prison sentence was handed down to 20-year-old Jamie Fultz in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Tuesday morning.

Burglary, carrying concealed weaponFultz, one of four people charged in a burglary, pleaded guilty to second-degree felony burglary and fourth-degree felony carrying concealed weapons. Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Fultz to four years on the burglary charge and one year for carrying a concealed weapon. The sentences will be served consecutively for a total of five years in prison.

“This sentence is a little bit light for burglary,” commented Leuthold, but noted that no one was in the home at the time and Fultz had cooperated with law enforcement.

Once Fultz completes his prison sentence, he will serve five years on mandatory post-release control. He must also pay $938 in restitution and forfeit a semi-automatic handgun to the Galion Police Department.

“I appreciate you giving me the week so I can talk to my family and discuss it,” Fultz said as he took responsibility for his actions.

Fultz’s sentence is the longest of the four people involved in the burglary in which they robbed an empty home, which was owned by Fultz’s girlfriend’s parents. Co-defendant Fredrick Miller was sentenced to 36 months in prison last month for burglary and safecracking, both fourth-degree felonies. Eighteen-year-old Christian Jackson, the third co-defendant, also pleaded guilty in January to receiving stolen property and safecracking, both fourth-degree felonies. He was placed on community control.

Laura Martinez’s case is still pending for second-degree felony burglary.
