The Iron plow wasn’t the only thing on the line at the Colonel Crawford vs. Wynford football game Friday night, the chance to remain undefeated also hung over the heads of both teams.
Not only were both teams undefeated, but they also carried top 12 state rankings in Division VI with the Eagles being ranked eighth, and the Royals 12th. In the end it was the 12th ranked Royals claiming victory by a touchdown 28-21.
Wynford’s Zach Hoffman scored the game’s first three touchdowns on runs from four, 44, and 18 yards out to put the Royals up 21-0 with 11:11 to go in the second quarter.
Colonel Crawford responded scoring on a 63 yard connection from quarterback Hayden Bute to wide receiver Owin Seevers with 9:26 to go in the half. The score would remain 21-7 until halftime.
Blake Treisch brought Crawford within 7 points on a 4 yard touchdown scamper with 6:09 to go in the third, but the Royals answered back with 11 seconds to go in the stanza on a five yard Hoffman to Tyler Glowaski pass to put the Royals up 28-14.
Treisch brought the Eagles back within striking distance on a one yard touchdown run with 11:10 to go in the game. Crawford would have a few chances to tie the game up, but in the end the Royals prevailed.
Crawford’s Treisch led the Eagles’ offense with 121 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns.
Wynford was led by Hoffman with 200 yards on the ground for three touchdowns on 43 attempts. Through the air Hoffman completed 12 of 14 pass attempts for 142 yards and another score.
With the loss Colonel Crawford drops to 3-1 on the year and 2-1 in N-10 play, while Wynford remains undefeated at 4-0 and 3-0 .
Colonel Crawford will take on the undefeated Seneca East Tigers at Seneca East next Friday, while Wynford travels to Carey.
