Three of the county teams played in the girls basketball sectional finals Saturday night with hopes of punching their ticket to districts; however it was only Wynford traveling on to the next round.
Getting to the districts was no walk in the park for the Lady Royals as they needed to take two overtime periods to defeat Crestview 55-51 in the Shelby sectional finals.
The Royals offense was led by Ellie Richmond who put up 20 points. Sarah Ogden added 10 points to the cause as Wynford improved to 15-8 on the season, and will next play the winner of Huron or New London at the Division III district semifinal held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Seneca East.
Crestview was led by Caitlyn Fulk and Renee Stimpert who had 13 points apiece.
The Buckeye Central Buckettes season was ended in Ontario at the hands of the South Central Lady Trojans Saturday night by a score of 79-50.
South Central started out of the gates scoring early and often jumping out to a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Things didn’t get much better for the Buckettes who found themselves down 40 to 15 at the half.
Buckeye Central was led by Hayley Green who scored 16 of the Buckettes points while going 4 of 10 from behind the 3-point arc. Sierra Hanes added 11 points to the effort, and Isabelle Biglin aided BC by grabbing 12 rebounds along with eight points. With the loss Buckeye Central finishes the season with a 10-13 record.
South Central featured 4 players scoring in double digits led by Anna Hintz’s double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds, Desiree Kilgore and Summer Sweeting both added 18 points, and Ashlee Tuttle contributed 11 points to the cause.
Traveling to Port Clinton, The Bucyrus Lady Redmen came up short against the Oak Harbor Rockets 48-40.
The Lady Redmen was led by Kelci Simms’ 13 points, while Torie Tanner added 10 points.
Oak Harbor was led by Alexa Weis’ 26 points.
With the loss Bucyrus finishes the season with a 12-11 record.
