Wynford retains Copper Kettle
HOLMES TOWNSHIP — Wynford maintained its dominance over backyard rival Bucyrus by downing the Redmen, 48-0. The win allowed the Royals to maintain possession of the Copper Kettle for the 20th straight year. The game opened the Northern 10 Conference for both teams.
Quarterback Wyatt Smith rushed for 157 yards on just six attempts, good for three touchdowns. He also completed six of 13 passes for 74 yards and two scores.
Smith ran 45 yards down the left sideline for the first touchdown. Less than two minutes later, he went in from 55 yards on virtually the same play, to make it 13-0 after one period.
Zach Houck, who ended the night with 134 yards on 11 carries, ran in from 33 yards with 9:15 left in the second quarter and Jordan Imbody was on the receiving end of a 27-yard scoring strike from Smith at the 5:28 mark to give Wynford (1-1, 1-0 N10) a 27-0 advantage at halftime.
Meanwhile, Bucyrus (0-2, 0-1) struggled on offense. Ben Seibert connected on eight of 20 passes for 80 yards, but the sophomore was intercepted four times.
Gram Dick caught seven passes for 73 yards for the Redmen.
The Royals tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the third period. Smith had a 40-yard run and hooked up with Houck from nine yards.
Joel Griffin finished the scoring with a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter to set the final score.
Wynford piled up 425 yards of total offense, 351 of which came on the ground.
Galion starts season 2-0
Galion built a 44-7 halftime lead, then held on to beat Cardington, 44-21, in a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference contest.
The Tigers rushed for 265 yards on just 28 tries, a 9.46 yard per carry average.
Big plays were the theme of the night for Galion (2-0, 1-0 MOAC). Harrison Ivy had scoring runs of two and 29 yards.
But Tanner Crisman had a 62-yard run, Takoda Crisman had a 54-yard scoring jaunt and a 60-yard kick return. Elias Middleton had a 50-yard interception return.
Mohawk runs past Buckeye Central
Parker Brown rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mohawk to a 45-14 N10 win over Buckeye Central.
Keith Jenkins completed eight of 17 passes for 134 yards and three scores. Bryce Sheets was connected on four of four passes for 31 yards and a score. Jesse Leith added 40 yards rushing on seven attempts, with one touchdown.
Landen Snyder, Blake Spitler, Tyler Hayman and Cole Zender each caught a scoring passes for the Warriors, who had 419 yards of offense. Mohawk led, 32-0, at halftime.
Quarterback Max Loy led Buckeye Central (0-2, 0-1 N10) by completing five of 11 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.
The Bucks scored their 14 points all in the fourth quarter. Loy ran in from four yards and connected with Avery Baldosser on a 45-yard scoring play.
Carey stuns Colonel Crawford
Colonel Crawford fell behind 20-0 by halftime and couldn’t recover in absorbing a 27-14 N10 loss at Carey.
The Blue Devils accumulated 195 yards on the ground with two touchdowns and 165 yards in the air, good for two more scores.
Hayden Bute was good on 10 of 22 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown for Colonel Crawford (1-1, 0-1 N10). Trevor Shawber rushed 14 times for 60 yards and a score.
Owin Seevers caught four balls for 74 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles.
