NEW WASHINGTON — The 2020 fall prep sports season got started with a pair of boys’ golf invitationals.
On Wednesday, Buckeye Central hosted its own invitational at Cranberry Hills golf course. The Bucks finished second with a team score of 330. The Seneca East Tigers cruised to the win with a 316.
Turner Bridgford shot 76 to lead the Tigers, while Jake Forehand and Andrew Kalb each finished with 77s.
The Bucks got balanced scoring with Alex Kanney leading the way with 80, Logan Niese shot 82, Tyler Rose 83 and Kaiden Vaughn 85.
River Valley’s Talan Monitcue fired a 69 to take medalist honors for the third-place Vikings, who shot 332. Mohawk finished fourth (358), Colonel Crawford was fifth (406), Wynford took sixth (428) and Crestline shot a team 497.
At Clinton Heights on Thursday, Seneca East stayed hot on the young season, winning its own invitational with a score of 304. Bridgford again was low Tiger with a 72, Forehand shot 74, and Kalb added 76.
Old Fort’s Adam Magers was medalist for the second place Stockaders, who came in with a team score of 322.
Buckeye Central was third with a 340. Kanney led the way with 80, while Rose and Niese carded 84s. Vaughn came in with a 92.
Bucyrus was fifth with a 350. Grady Jackson fired 83 for the Redmen, Kael Scott finished with 86, Karson Kimmel 90 and Gavin O’Connel 91.
Fremont St. Joseph (353), Tiffin Columbian (371) and Bellevue (407) were fifth, sixth and seventh.
