Two Crawford County teams extended their season into the playoffs with hopes to continue to play under Friday night’s lights; however their opponents had other plans.
The Colonel Crawford Eagles hosted the Wayne Trace Raiders in the Division VI Regional Quarterfinal game Friday night. The Wayne Trace Raiders didn’t take the notice that the Eagles had home field advantage winning the game 52 to 28.
Colonel Crawford Quarterback Nate Klingenberger completed 16 passes on 36 attempts for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns. Eli Reffey led the Eagles rushing game with 14 yards on 5 attempts. Dylan Gully was the top receiver for Colonel Crawford with 195 yards on 6 receptions with one touchdown.
Leading the Raiders passing attack Wayne Trace Colby Speice completed 30 passes on 49 attempts for 345 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jarrod Sherry led Wayne Trace rushing with 56 yards on 12 attempts for 2 touchdowns. Sherry also led the Wayne Trace receiving corps with 163 yards on 13 catches and 2 touchdowns.
With the loss, Colonel Crawford ends their season with a 9-2 record. Wayne Trace improves their record to 10-1 and will take on Tinora in the next round.
The Galion Tigers traveled to the Kenton Wildcats home turf with hopes of continuing their season, but when the final whistle sounded at Robinson Field, Galion watched their season go up in smoke, losing 58-14.
Galion scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 5 yard pass from Josh Keller to Cario Davison a 33 yard pass from Jacob Frye to Tyler Castline.
Those two scores weren’t enough as Kenton Quarterback Grant Sherman completed 35 of 46 passes for 489 yards and 8 touchdowns to 5 different receivers in the first half. Sherman didn’t play the second half of the game.
With the loss Galion finishes their season at 9-2, while Kenton improves their record to 11-0 and will play Wooster Triway in the next round.
