Galion knew going into its Division IV regional quarterfinal that Wooster Triway’s prolific offense would present a multitude of challenges. The Tigers weren’t wrong.
Titans’ quarterback Parker Carmichael threw for 465 yards and six touchdowns to four different receivers to knock Galion from the playoffs by a final of 42-7.
The score was not reflective of the quality of the Tigers’ effort, especially on defense in the first half.
Triway struck first on a Carmichael strike to Jeremy Miller. But the Tigers answered back with it own passing attack when Jacob Fryer hit Drake Barnett down the sideline for a 43-yard score.
In the second quarter Carmichael needed just three plays to regain the lead, the score coming on a 68-yard bomb to Jay Duncan. From there the game turned into a defensive struggle until late in the half when the Titans, aided by a Galion penalty, scored on the final play from scrimmage in the first half when Try Haven caught a screen and found running room to the end zone to give Triway a 21-7 lead at the half.
Galion tried to make a game of it. The Tigers took the second half kickoff and marched to the Triway 40 before turning it over on downs. Carmichael put the game on ice with touchdown passes to Miller and Logan Garrett in the third quarter.
A final 95-yard bomb to Duncan in the fourth quarter put the finishing touches on his stellar performance.
Fryer led the Tigers with 115 yards rushing and threw for 126 yards with an interception and a touchdown. Cario Davison led Galion receivers with four catches and Drake Barneet had three catches for 54 yards.
Galion season closes out at 6-5. Triway remains undefeated at 11-0 and will play either Kenton or Port Clinton next Friday.
