The Galion baseball team’s up-and-down 2017 campaign was definitely on the upswing Wednesday night as the Tigers rode the arm of Garrett Kuns and the bat of Will Donahue to a 9-6 win over the visiting North Union Wildcats.

Galion improved to 2-3 in the MOAC and 4-5 overall. North Union is now 1-3 and 5-6.

Galion struck first with a pair of runs in its half of the first inning. After North Union rallied for a single run in the second, the Tigers roared back with five in the bottom half of that frame for 7-2 lead that stood up to a persistent Wildcat crew.

Kuns started and went the distance on the mound for the Tigers. Although he allowed 10 hits, he fanned four and walked just two. Three of the runs charged to him were unearned.

Mitchell Dyer, Kuns, Donahue and Aaron Barnhart each had two singles for Galion. Donahue knocked in three runs with his safeties. Dyer, Kuns and Ryan Utz each had an RBI.

Cody Neel started and took the loss for North Union., Neel led the offense for North Union with a single and double and two RBIs.

Scores from the baseball diamond in other action on Wednesday were Mohawk over Bucyrus 3-2, Upper Sandusky shutting out Buckeye Central 4-0, and Pleasant defeating Wynford 10-3.

Colonel Crawford’s softball team lost for the first time this season at Seneca East by the score of 1-0, Mohawk beat Bucyrus 5-2, and Upper Sandusky dominated Buckeye Central 14-3.
