The Galion Tigers qualified ten swimmers for the Northwest District Championships held at Bowling Green on Feb. 19.

The men qualified the following relays: 200 Medley relay (Eli Skaggs, Luke Eisenaugle, Sam Rigdon, and Lucas Conner) with a season best time of 1:50.41 and placing 3rd in the Sectionals; 200 Free Relay, Sam Rigdon, Landon Rose, Clay Karnes, and Eli Skaggs with a time of 1:37.21 and placed 2nd in the Sectionals; 400 Free Relay, Landon Rose, Lucas Conner, Luke Eisenaugle, and Clay Karnes with a time of 3:46.54 and placed 5th in the Sectionals.

Individually, Eli Skaggs won the 50 free with a time of 22.77. He also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.28. Sam Rigdon placed 4th in the 50 free in 23.86 and placed 7th in the 100 free with a time of 53.72. Landon Rose placed 9th in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.36 and swam a season best in the 100 free with a time of 55.21 and placing 9th. Lucas Conner swam the 200 freestyle in a season best time of 2:05.45, placing 12th and swam the 500 freestyle in 5:41.33 and placing 10th. Clay Karnes placed 2nd in the 500 freestyle with a season best time of 5.23.52 and he also swam the 100 butterfly in a season best time of 59.43 placing 4th. Luke Eisenaugle placed 12th in the 50 free with a time of 25.85 and placed 10th in the backstroke with a 1:06.32. Freshman Westin Rose swam a season best time in the 200 free in 2:12.09 and the 100 free In 59.02. Gideon Johnson swam to a season best time in the 50 free in 29.15 and breaststroke event in 1;20.54.

The Lady Tigers 200 Medley Relay team placed 6th with a season best time of 2:07.11 (Bri Wallis, Sari Conner, Allison DeNero, and Elise Barnhart). The quartet swam to a season best time of 1:51.44 in the 200 free relay placing 4th. The 400 free relay team composed of Bri Streib, Ashleigh Wright, Sara Garverick, and Elise Barnhart placed 5th.

Individually, Bri Wallis was 8th in the 200 free with a season best time of 2:11.94 while swimming the 500 freestyle in 5:58.08 and placing 6th. Allison DeNero swam to a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:27.77. She swam the 100 butterfly in 1:06.70 placing 4th. Ashleigh Wright, Dannielle Schneider, Bri Streib, Allison Bauer, Sara Garverick, Megan Kostelnik, and Elise Barnhart swam their season best times in the their individual events.

The Men’s team placed 5th in the Sectionals, the Ladies Team finished 7th.

District Qualifiers are as follows for men:  200 Medley Relay is seeded 10th, 200 Free Relay seeded 9th, 400 Free Relay seeded 16th. Eli Skaggs seeded 2nd in the 100 butterfly, 4th in the 100 free. Clay Karnes seeded 9th the 500 free and 17th in the 100 fly. Sam Rigdon seeded 15th in the 50 free and 19th in the 100 free. Landon Rose seeded 17th in the 200 free and 24th in the 100 free. Lucas Conner seeded 25th in the 200 free and 22nd in the 500 free

District Qualifiers are as follows for the girls:  200 Free Relay is seeded 21st. Allison DeNero seeded 18th in the 200 IM, 17th in 100 butterfly. Bri Wallis seeded 30th in the 200 free, 24th in the 500 free.

“The team as a whole swam well, many posting their best times for the year,” said Coach Ted Temple. “I am looking forward to some State Qualifiers this season. Friday will be a great day for the swimmers.”
