Wynford put blood, sweat, and tears into their Division IV sectional final against the South Central Trojans, but in the end it was the Trojans cutting down the nets Friday night.
Wynford jumped out to a 19-16 first quarter lead behind Josh Crall’s seven of his game total 15 points.
The Trojans awoke in the second quarter scoring 20-plus points in each of the final three quarters. They outscored the Royals 23-15 behind Ben Lamoreaux’s 14 of his 15 total points to take a 39-35 half time lead.
The Trojans would extend their lead after the half by outscoring the Royals 23-9 to go up 52-44. The fourth quarter didn’t fare much better for the Royals as they would be outscored 22-15 to close out the game 84-59.
The Trojans featured five players scoring double digits. They were led by Simon Blair’s 23 points. Aaron Lomoreaux added 16 points, Josh Bonet put up 14 points, and Michael Ponchel contributed 10 points.
South Central will play Mansfield St. Pete’s in the Division IV district semifinal at 8 p.m. on March 7 at Willard High School.
Jack Reed, who went 9 of 10 from the free throw line, would lead the Royals scorers with 18 points.
The Royals finish their season with a 13-11 record.
