BUCYRUS — Winning the Bucyrus Ladies Invitational is difficult at best. Repeating as champion is rare to say the least.
Brittany Slagle put herself in rarefied air by defeating Morgan Swavel in a one-game roll-off to win the 52nd Ladies Invitational at Suburban Lanes on Saturday afternoon.
Slagle came out of the losers’ bracket to defeat Swavel, 702-619, in the three-game championship series and forcing the one-game winner-take-all. Swavel had gotten through the tournament unscathed and was the winners’ bracket representative in the finals.
Slagle took the decisive game, 246-209, to win the tournament for the second straight year. This was Swavel’s first trip to the final and only her fifth appearance in the tournament overall.
Slagle took home the $500 championship purse, while Swavel was awarded $250. Both bowlers also received trophies.
