SYCAMORE — Bailey Sheets will be taking her softball skills to the collegiate ranks next year.
The Mohawk pitching ace made the announcement this week on Twitter, saying: “I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.”
This past spring, she earned first team Division IV all-Ohio honors, as chosen by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association, as a junior.
Sheets led the Lady Warriors to a stellar season before falling in the regional semifinals to Van Wert Lincolnview, 5-4. The team shared the Northern 10 Athletic Conference regular season championship with Colonel Crawford, both posting 12-2 marks.
“Bailey has worked incredibly hard and has received multiple offers from colleges. I am very excited for her as she continues her softball career at Mount Vernon,” said Mohawk head coach Mindy Walton. “Warrior Nation is extremely proud of her.”
Sheets was outstanding in the circle, compiling a 21-5 mark with an ERA of 2.23. She recorded 176 strikeouts with 45 walks.
She was no slouch at the plate either. Her .512 batting average also paced the N10. In addition, she had 25 RBI, nine doubles and scored 33 runs. She also stole 14 bases.
“I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for making everything possible. It means the world to me,” Sheets said.
Sheets is a member of the unbeaten Lady Warriors volleyball team (14-0, 9-0 in the N10) after a three-set win Tuesday over Buckeye Central. She also plays basketball and has a 3.8 grade point average.
The Cougars posted a 37-14 record last season and compete in the Crossroads League. MVNU has an enrollment of 2,200 students from 31 states and 22 countries and U.S. territories.
