ATTICA — Seneca East coach Ed Phillips said that his team can be balanced offensively. The Tigers were more one-dimensional on Friday night against Wynford.

Quarterback Nicholas Parks and wide receiver Taylor Young hooked up for 174 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Tigers raced to a 36-15 win over the Royals.

With the win, Seneca East improved to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. Wynford fell to 1-3, 0-1 in the conference.

The Tigers rushed for 98 yards on 22 carries, but Parks hit 11 of 20 passes for 252 yards in the win.

“We feel like we can run it, and we can throw it. We have a lot of really good playmakers out on the edge, and we want to do both.”

Royals’ coach Cyle Skidmore said his team knew that the Tigers were going to throw the ball.

“That’s what they do in offense,” Skidmore said. “They throw the ball and do some good things. Their coaches did a good job tonight of scheming us and getting the ball to their athletes in space.”

Wynford moved the ball as well, rushing for 188 yards and passing for 186 more. But the Royals turned the ball over on downs inside the Seneca East 10 and fumbled twice more, halting potential scoring drives. Bryce Locker rushed for 138 yards on 17 carries and halfback Anthony Evans rushed for 56 yards on 17 carries and caught five passes for 141 yards and a score.

“We have to look at ourselves and get better,” Skidmore said. “You can’t go the other way. We have to focus on what we do and get better. I think we need to focus on the little things a little more and I felt that showed tonight.”

After the Royals were turned away from the end zone on their first possession, the Tigers found the end zone when Parks hit a streaking Young for a 55-yard score and an 8-0 Seneca East lead.

Wynford knotted the game early in the second quarter when Locker scored from seven yards out. He also added the two-point conversion as the Royals tied the game at 8-8.

The two teams moved the ball well in the second period, but there was no scoring until Parks hit Young again from 30 yards out with 50 seconds left in the half.

At the break, Seneca East led, 15-8.

The Tigers increased the lead to 22-8 in the third quarter on a four-yard run by Jackson Gayheart.

The lead went to 29-8 early in the fourth quarter when Parks connected with Young again, this time from 34 yards.

Wynford responded with a 52-yard pass from quarterback Brayden Campbell to Evans.

But the Tigers finished the scoring with a seven-yard run from Ethan Shultz.

“It was tough,” Phillips said. “We knew Wynford was a good football team. We didn’t play real well in the first quarter but we kept swinging and swinging and then we got a little rhythm on offense and made plays.

“Our offensive line was the difference,” Phillips added. “They were really dialed in. In the second half, our defense was fantastic.”

Skidmore said that focusing more on the little things will help his team get better.

“Those are the things in practice that you really don’t think about,” Skidmore said. “It’s a hold here or there, or ball security fumble or a dropped pass. You can’t do those things when you’re playing a good team. And Seneca East is a good team.”
