Bucyrus opened their home court for the 2014 season in winning fashion Friday night defeating the visiting Mohawk Warriors 50 to 32.
The Redmen couldn’t shake the Warriors early on in the game clinging to an 11 to 8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter the Redmen expanded their lead by one going into the half with a 19 to 15 lead.
Bucyrus pulled away from Mohawk in the third quarter outscoring the Warriors 13 to 4 to go into the final stanza with a 32 to 19 lead.
Bucyrus outscored Mohawk 18 to 13 in the final quarter to finish on top 50 to 32.
D.J. Dagher led Bucyrus in scoring with 13 points. Austin Williams added 11 on the way to the Redmen’s first win of the season.
Brayden Dunlap led Mohawk’s offense with 14 points.
The Bucyrus Redmen will travel to Northmor today for their next game.
The Colonel Crawford Eagles opened their season at home disposing the Northmor Golden Knights 74 to 35.
The Eagles started out of the gates in a flurry outscoring Northmor 28 to 16 in the first quarter.
The second quarter Crawford’s defense clamped down allowing just six points while scoring 22 points for a commanding 50 to 22 lead at the half.
The Eagles finished out the game outscoring Northmor 24 to 12 to finish the game at 74 to 36.
As a team Colonel Crawford made 9 three pointers with Todd Entenmann making 6 from beyond the arc on his way to a 30 point night. Owen Adams added 12 points, and Dylan Gully added another 10 on the way to the victory.
Only four players on Northmor’s team scored during the game with Daniel Donner leading the way with 14, and Colin Berg adding 10 to the effort.
Colonel Crawford will next host Mansfield Christian today.
Buckeye Central traveled to Plymouth to open their season against the Big Red, and despite carrying a 21 to 15 halftime lead couldn’t hold on in the end losing by 3 in their effort.
Austin Wurm led the Bucks offense with 28 points. Grant Loy added 11, but the Bucks couldn’t hold on going down 47 to 44.
Plymouth was led by Tyson Beebe, who scored 19 points and Tyrell Edmiston also contributed 15 points to the Big Red cause.
The Bucks will host Mansfield St. Peter on Tuesday.
