The staff of Crawford County Now is initiating a new weekly sports feature called Player of the Year Watch.
In this initial edition, we will list five girls and five boys that, if the season ended now, would likely be considered for Northern 10 Conference POY based on the statistics to this point.
We understand that this is very early and as the season goes on, the list will likely see many additions and subtractions. This is the opinion of the CNN staff and does not reflect the thoughts of N10 coaches or administrators.
Girls
Megan Hensel, Sr., Upper Sandusky: Hensel began the week leading the N10 in scoring at 19.8 points per game while leading the Lady Rams to a 6-0 start on the season. Hensel is also third in the league in rebounding and, amazingly, fourth in assists.
Jessica Bowerman, Fr., Seneca East: The freshman is making quite a splash as a newcomer, sitting second to Hensel in scoring in the N10. With her help, the Lady Tigers are off to a 3-1 start to the season. Bowerman is also third in the league in 3-point shooting percentage and ninth in rebounding.
Sydney Kin, Sr., Carey: Kin will take her talents to the University of Findlay next year and this year’s stats justify that. The senior leads the N10 in rebounding and is fourth in scoring. She also leads the league in blocked shots and is fifth in field goal percentage, leading the Lady Blue Devils to a 5-1 start.
Courtney Pifher, Jr., Buckeye Central: Pifher leads the N10 in field goal percentage, is second in rebounding and fifth in scoring. As a result, the Buckettes are off to a 5-0 start.
Abigail Fogle, Sr., Upper Sandusky: Fogle gives the Lady Rams a 1-2 scoring punch alongside Hensel. Fogle is third in the N10 in scoring.
Boys
Josh Crall, So., Wynford: Crall had a monster night against Bucyrus, with 30 points, and leads the N10 in scoring with 24 ppg. He is also sixth in the league in rebounding from his guard position and is first in steals. The Royals started the season 2-0.
Cameron McCreary, So., Colonel Crawford: McCreary is second in the N10 in scoring, meaning that two sophomores — he along with Crall — are 1-2 in the league in scoring. McCreary leads the league in assists and free throw percentage, is second in field goal percentage and fourth in 3-point percentage. The Eagles are 2-1 on the season.
Jevon Dible, Sr., Upper Sandusky: Dible leads the N10 in field goal percentage, is second in steals and 3-point percentage, and is fifth in assists and scoring. The Rams are off to a 3-1 start.
Cody Luzader, Sr., Carey: Luzader leads the N10 in 3-point percentage, is third in field goal percentage and scoring and eighth in assists. The Blue Devils are 2-1 on the season thus far.
Max Loy, Sr., Buckeye Central: Loy is sixth in the N10 in scoring and 3-point percentage. He is also seventh in field goal percentage.
The list will no doubt change weekly, so stay tuned.
