ONTARIO — Galion and Ontario combined for 94 points, as there was no shortage of offense.

The Warriors put together 522 total yards and the Tigers had 460.

Ontario walked away with a 59-35 win to move to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.

A heavy dose of offense was on display from the beginning. The two teams combined for seven touchdowns in the first quarter.

On the first play from scrimmage, Galion quarterback Braxton Prosser took it 80 yards to the house. Just 45 seconds later, Bodpegn Miller found Quinton Frankhouse from 50 yards to tie it at 7-7.

“We had some real breakdowns in the secondary,” said Galion head coach Matt Dick. “Hats off to them (Ontario). The quarterback threw the ball on time with good touch, but to be honest with you the receivers ran straight, and they were wide open.”

Galion turned the ball over their next possession, the first of three turnovers they’d have. Ontario running back Chase Studer capped off a scoring drive from four yards out.

Prosser and the Tigers answered quickly again, as he found Chambers for 62 yards. On the evening, Chambers caught four passes for 88 yards. Prosser finished 9-of-13 passing for 147 yards.

Ontario’s passing offense continued their hot start when Miller hit Landon Foltz from 46 yards. Then, the Warriors made it 28-14 on another short Studer run. Prosser answered for Galion by going 63 yards for another long touchdown. The junior quarterback ran the ball 10 times for 200 yards.

Galion continued to have problems stopping the Ontario offense, as they Miller it in up the middle from a yard early in the second quarter. On their next drive, Trey Booker booted a 32-yard field goal.

The Tigers finally got the score they needed on an end around to Chambers from 48 yards out. Galion’s sophomore wide receiver ran the ball four times for 62 yards. Ontario’s Studer would score again from five yards away on the Warriors’ next possession to take a 45-28 lead into halftime.

Galion forced an Ontario fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half that led to a two-yard touchdown for Carson Frankhouse. Unlike the first half, the second half was a total opposite in the pace of scoring.

Ontario scored their first touchdown of the second half on a fourth down keeper by Miller from 29 yards, capping a 99-yard drive. Galion fumbled inside the Ontario one-yard line just before scoring.

The closer came in the fourth quarter when a Prosser pass sailed a bit too much and Craig Powers’ interception was returned 45 yards for a touchdown.

“In the second half, we fumbled down there, we fumbled a mesh early on, we threw a pick late. Those things we have to cut out,” explained Dick.

Studer paced the Warriors on the ground with 115 yards and Miller had 293 yards through the air. Frankhouse had a huge game at wide receiver with 189 yards.

Galion was banged up early as running back Gabe Ivy carried the ball just three times before suffering a game-ending injury. The Tigers were already without wide receiver/safety Elijah Chafin and multiple other contributors went down.

“I think injuries are starting to really hammer us. Last week we were down two safeties at halftime. This week at different points we’re playing guys that we had no clue would be in the mix. When you’re banged up you just have that.

I haven’t seen this many injuries in back-to-back weeks since probably my first year. It really just hit us hard.”

Logan Shifley carried the ball three times for 18 yards, Linkon Tyrrell had 33 receiving yards, and Cooper Kent added 18.

Galion falls to 4-2 and 1-2 in the MOAC. The Tigers will host Highland on Friday.

Ontario will host Pleasant in a MOAC contest.
