BUCYRUS — Ontario finished first in four of five brackets.
That was enough to propel the Warriors to a championship in the 10th annual Jim Grandy Tennis Tournament at Bucyrus Community Courts.
Ontario scored 13 points to get past Upper Sandusky’s 10. Shelby (9) and River Valley (8) were third and fourth, respectively.
The seven-team field also included Galion, Mansfield Madison, Clear Fork, and host Bucyrus.
“In my years of running the Jim Grandy Invitational, this was the strongest field we have ever had,” Bucyrus coach and tournament director John Supon said. “Four of the top area teams in River Valley, Shelby, and Upper Sandusky participated along with champions Ontario.”
In first singles, Joseph Litao defeated Chase Osborn of River Valley, 8-0. Shelby’s Ty Keinath downed Owen Gottfried of Upper Sandusky, 8-2, for third place.
Alex Ellis tripped Jared Billheimer of Shelby, 8-2, in second singles. Upper Sandusky’s Abe Baldwin edged Zeke Klenzman for third place.
The team of Vidal/Vidal won first doubles over Upper Sandusky’s Daris/Smith, 8-4. Madison’s Price/Jacobs took third place, defeating McMullen/Barre of Galion.
In second doubles, Phillips/Petit handled Galion’s Jutz/Kaple, 8-2. Engle/Gottfried of Upper Sandusky grabbed third place, slipping past River Valley’s McKinnis/Atwell, 8-6.
Shelby prevented an Ontario sweep of first place finishes when Bryson Baker downed Adrian Diaz of River Valley, 8-4.
Aiden Morris of Upper Sandusky captured third place with an 8-0 win over Ontario’s Lance Miller.
