The longest continuous running road race in Ohio stepped to the starting line Saturday and although he was late getting there, Jesse Armbruster won the Brattie Run for the a record-setting seventh time.
Roughly 100 runners took part in the 5-mile run with Armbruster getting there first in a time of 27:49. It was the 42nd of the Brattie Run that begins and ends in Aumiller Park.
“It is the longest continuous running road race in Ohio,” said organizer George Guins.
Armbruster’s seven victories in the race are the most ever. His other wins came in `06, `07, `09, 2010, `12, and `13.
It was a Colonel Crawford sweep. Armbruster is a Colonel Crawford graduate and past state track 1,600-meter champion. Brad Bauer II was second at 29:06 followed by Clay Martin at 29:41. Bauer will be a sophomore for the Eagles and Martin will be a senior.
Runner is definitely in Bauer’s DNA. His father is a past cross country All-Ohioan for Colonel Crawford.
Saturday’s top female runner was Gina Warnke in 35:44.
The oldest runner in Saturday’s race was 80.
