NEW WASHINGTON — The 14th Next Level Basketball 419 Camp concluded its 3-day run on Thursday at Buckeye Central High School.
According to camp coordinator and Willard head basketball coach Joe Bedingfield, 134 boys and girls, grades 5-12, participated in the camp.
Over 20 coaches from around the area helped with the camp. The emphasis is entirely on skills and individual improvement.
There were no games played. Instead, 10 groups were formed based on gender and grade level. Two coaches manned each of ten stations to guide and teach the fundamentals of basketball, from shooting and ball handling to agility and defense. Over two hours, the campers spent an intense 10 minutes at each of the stations.
After starting as a high school only camp in 2010, using Bucyrus and other schools as bases, the camp has expanded to include players down to those entering the fifth grade. It has also found a permanent home at Buckeye Central for the past eight years.
Bedingfield cited Buckeye Central’s multiple gymnasiums and central location as the reason for making it the camp’s permanent home.
