SYCAMORE — Post-season honors keep piling up for the Lady Warriors after a stellar softball season.
Mohawk junior pitcher Bailey Sheets earned first team Division IV all-Ohio honors, as chosen by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.
Head coach Mindy Walton was named all-Northwest District coach of the year.
They led Mohawk to a 21-5 record before falling in the regional finals to Lincolnview 5-4.
“Bailey is a workhorse; she never stops. She continues to strive to be better. She spends her time in the weight room, on the field and helps her teammates to get better as well. She is very deserving of these honors,” Walton said.
Sheets and Tori Phillips made first team all-district and first team all Northern 10 Athletic Conference.
Sheets was marvelous in the circle, compiling a 21-5 mark with an ERA of 2.23. She recorded 176 strikeouts with 45 walks.
She was no less effective at the plate, where her .512 batting average also paced the N10.
In addition, Sheets had 25 RBI, nine doubles and scored 33 runs. She also stole 14 bases.
Phillips hit .468 on the season, driving in a team-high 26 runs. The senior shortstop was second in the N10 in doubles with 11 and scored 32 runs.
“Tori is another big part of our team. She puts huge amounts of time in, in the off-season on the field and in the weight room. I’m so proud of her. She will be big shoes to fill as she moves on to college,” Walton said.
Mohawk defeated Monroeville and Plymouth in the district tournament at Galion before falling in the regional semifinal game at Clyde to Lincolnview. The Lancers went on to finish second in the state, losing to Strasburg Franklin 3-2 in the title game.
The Lady Warriors shared the N10 regular season championship with Colonel Crawford, both going 12-2.
Walton was appreciative of her award.
“Being chosen as Coach of the Year is a huge honor. We have so many amazing coaches in our division. I feel honored to receive this award.”
