CAREY — Mohawk won the Northern 10 Conference softball championship here Saturday morning, shutting out Carey 10-0.

The visitors started off quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning. Katie Woodland tied the school RBI record with a single. Freshman Aubrey Gottfried smacked a two-run double, and Josie Granata doubled in a run.

The Lady Warriors finish at 12-2 in the league and Carey 10-4. Mohawk ends the season at 20-5 overall.

Gottfried allowed just one hit. She had four walks and three strikeouts.

Blue Devils (17-10) hurler Kenzie Simons retired 10 straight batters after that first inning. But Mohawk scored six times in the seventh to make it 10-0. Woodland had a two-run single.

Allison Russell, A.J. Chevalier, Mallory Brickner, and Summer Haubert added one hit each for Mohawk.

Woodland had three RBI, while Gottfried and Russell had a pair each.

Mohawk was eliminated 5-3 by New Riegel in the Division IV district final. Carey plays Van Wert Lincolnview in a regional semifinal contest on Wednesday.
