CLYDE (Crawford County Now) — Mohawk saw its volleyball season end in crushing fashion here Wednesday night.
The Lady Warriors fell behind two sets to none, only to rally to win the next two and force a fifth set. But Monroeville proved why it’s one of the best Division VII programs in the state with a come-from-behind 15-12 victory.
Mohawk finishes at 20-5. The Lady Eagles (21-2) move on to regional play next week taking on either Ashtabula St. John or Jackson-Milton.
Monroeville won the first two sets 25-16, 25-20. But the Lady Warriors rallied to win the next two sets, 25-14, 25-14.
In the fifth set the Lady Eagles overcame a slow start and a 6-6 tie at one point. They led 12-9, before securing the win.
Biz Klopp finished with 18 kills for Mohawk in her final high school match. She’s the school’s all-time leader with 1,632 career kills.
Ady Adams had 19 kills and three blocks for Monroeville, and Addison Homan had 32 digs and 13 service aces.
Carey falls to Van Buren
Carey fell to Van Buren 3-1 on Tuesday night in a D-VI district final at Wapakoneta, 25-18, 25-10, 25-27, 25-17.
Emily Brodman had 11 kills and Abbi Seager 10 for Carey. McKinnley Kessler had 27 assists. Kessler, Brodman and Rylie Stoops each had a dozen digs.
The Lady Devils end the season at 17-7 after finishing one game behind co-champions Buckeye Central and Mohawk in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference standings.
Van Buren (19-5) plays the Buckettes for a district title 6 p.m. Thursday at Shelby High School.
Selma Brant led the Black Knights with 25 kills and Brooklyn Wilkin added 23.
Columbian, Calvert advance
Tiffin Columbian (18-7) took down Toledo Notre Dame Academy in a D-III district final in five sets.
The Tornadoes won 17-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13. They will play Toledo St. Ursula Academy next Thursday in the Norwalk regional semifinal.
Top-seeded Tiffin Calvert stayed unbeaten topping No. 3 seed New Riegel in straight sets to move on in a D-VII district championship.
The Senecas (25-0) won 25-6, 25-6, 25-13 and will play Kalida (20-5) at the Elida regional next Thursday.
Lady Lex toppled
Lima Shawnee topped Lexington 3-1 in a D-III district title game at Liberty-Benton High School Wednesday.
Lady Lex lost 25-20, 19-25, 27-25, 25-22 and ended its season at 20-5. The Indians, also 20-5, move on to regional play.
