NEW WASHINGTON — A Crawford County coach and her two daughters took home top honors in District 6 volleyball this week.

Buckeye Central head coach Missy McDougal joined Kendra Snook of Monroeville as Coaches of the Year in Division VI.

Daughter and senior Mara McDougal was chosen to the first team, along with her sister, junior Maren McDougal.

“I am really excited to see Mara and Maren both get recognized on first team District 6. There are a lot of great players in our division, so it really is a great honor,” McDougal said.

Mara led the Buckettes with 364 kills, 429 digs, 85 aces and 515 serve receptions. The second-team all-Ohio pick ended her career with 1,408 digs, 266 aces, 798 kills and 1,671 serve receptions.

Maren finished the season with 725 assists, 55 aces, 230 digs and 90 kills. Both earned a first-team all-Northern 10 Athletic Conference spot.

“These girls have worked so hard over the years playing volleyball and rehabbing to make sure they were ready to play each year,” McDougal said.

“More importantly, I was excited that our team had a good year. Winning games is so much more important to them than individual honors.”

McDougal, who took over the program in 2021, expressed gratitude for her achievement.

“I am thankful to be recognized by the other coaches. I don’t like to take credit for any of our success,” she said. “I just try to put the girls in position to be successful on the court. I thought they did a great job this year.”

Buckeye Central went 19-6 and fell in a district final to New London.

The McDougals’ teammate, junior Adrienne Jury, and Wynford sophomore Brooke Frombaugh garnered second-team honors.

The Royals trio of Kate McGuire, Cali Holbrook and Gretchen Shade gained honorable mention, along with Reese Garvin of Bucyrus and Camryn Powers of Colonel Crawford.

Jaidyn Kagy-Alexander of Seneca East was first team in D-VI, with Haley Boes on the second team. Bryn

Meyer and Alexa Snay were voted third team.

Galion’s duo of Madelyn Schieber and Jillian Capretta were chosen first team in Division V.

Tiger teammates Cameron Eckert got second team and Audrey Glew and Maddy Roseberry were third team.

Galion was eliminated by Willard in their district final match.

Biz Klopp of Mohawk took Player of the Year in Division VII. She was joined on the first unit by teammate Caitlin Ogg.

Klopp, a junior, had over 450 kills and 81 blocks to lead the N10.

Allison Russell was named to the second team, Chloe Miller third team and Trenna Johnson honorable mention.

Warriors head coach Eric Hoover was Coach of the Year, along with Lori Rombach of Tiffin Calvert. Mohawk was 14-0 in league play and finished 24-1 on the season, losing to Calvert in the district final.

Selections are made through the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
