The postseason has arrived, and a few teams of local interest will be playing in Week 11.
In the first week, the team with the better seed hosts, so Galion, Northmor and Seneca East will get another home game this weekend.
Division IV, Region 14
Ottawa-Glandorf (7-3) at Galion (8-2)
Galion is hosting a playoff game for the first time in a decade. As is usually the case, the opponent will be formidable.
Ottawa-Glandorf banged helmets in the rugged Western Buckeye League so the Titans are battle tested. All three of the teams they lost to are in the playoffs, interestingly in three different divisions — Wapakoneta (DIII), Kenton (DIV) and Eastwood (DV).
Playing in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference was no picnic for Galion, so the Tigers are also used to facing tough competition. But the Tigers performed well in the pressure cooker. Wilson Frankhouse led the MOAC in passing with 2113 yards and 25 touchdowns, while Isaiah Alsip was the leading receiver in the league with 989 yards and 12 scores.
Ottawa-Glandorf likes to air it out as well. Quarterback Jacob Balbaugh has thrown for 1623 yards and 16 touchdowns. His favorite target is Brennan Blevins who has 589 yards on 28 catches and six scores. Balbaugh has thrown at least on touchdown pass to five different receivers.
If the weather holds, fans at Unckrich Stadium should get their money’s worth of offense alone.
Division VI, Region 22
No. 7 Norwayne (5-5) at No. 2 Seneca East (9-1)
Norwayne stumbled out of the gate, starting the season 0-4. But the Bobcats recovered to win five of their last six and their strength of schedule in the Wayne County Athletic League got them into the postseason.
Three of Norwayne’s first four losses came at the hands of playoff teams — Mogadore, Western Reserve and Dalton, all Division VI.
Seneca East certainly is not intimidated after advancing to the Division VI state semifinals last year. And the Tigers have home field advantage in this one.
Seneca East will rely heavily on the arm of quarterback Chase Foos who led the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in passing with 2060 yards and 28 touchdowns. Jake Siesel caught 33 balls for 529 yards and nine TDs.
If the defense shows up and they limit turnovers, the Tigers have an opportunity to be playing in Week 12.
No. 5 Hillsdale (7-3) at No. 4 Northmor (9-1)
Hillsdale sort of limped to the finish — losing two of its last three — but a 5-0 start to the year was enough to get the Falcons into the playoffs.
Northmor, on the other hand, picked up virtually where they left off last year. The only dent to the regular season was a loss to 10-0 East Knox.
Both teams were playoff teams last year, so neither has the advantage of experience. The difference may come down to home field, which bodes well for Northmor.
Division VII, Region 26
Mohawk (6-4) at Leipsic (9-1)
Mohawk fell far short of last year’s magical 10-0 run through the regular season, but the Warriors managed to piece together enough computer points to return to the postseason.
The bad news is that Mohawk travels to Leipsic. The Vikings’ only loss was 24-21 to 9-1 Division V Liberty-Benton, also a playoff team. Leipsic has beaten three other playoff teams — Carey, McComb and Arlington.
The Warriors will need to rely on their N10-leading defense which limited opponents to 211 yards per game. Jesse Leeth was fourth in the league in rushing with 744 yards and 11 touchdowns. Running the ball and controlling the clock, keeping the Vikings’ offense off the field could be key to a Mohawk upset.
