Wynford’s Mallory Moore hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the second period to break open a tie game as Wynford defeated Western Reserve 51-39 last night in a Division III sectional tournament semifinal game played at Shelby High School.
The game was close at the start with five lead changes in the first period with the frame ending tied at 10. Moore’s 3-point barrage gave the Lady Royals the lead for good as they improved their record to 14-8 on the year.
Wynford advances in the sectional and will face Ashland Crestview for the sectional championship Saturday night at 6:15 at Shelby High.
Alyssa Harrer led Wynford with 15 points, Moore finished with 12 and Sarah Ogden also had 12 points.
Western Reserve was led in scoring by Brooke Buchanan with 14 points as the Lady Riders finish the year at 2-19.
The Bucyrus Lady Redmen overcame a tough first half to rally and defeat the Mohawk Lady Warriors 63-54 in the Division III Sectional semifinals last night.
Bucyrus took the early lead but Mohawk went on a 26-15 run to take a five-point halftime lead. In the third quarter, Bucyrus made defensive adjustments and strengthened their rebounding to take a two-point advantage.
They wrapped up the ballgame with a 23-point 4th quarter to move on to the sectional championship.
Junior Kelci Simms led the Lady Redmen with 20 points while senior Megan Flaherty chipped in 17, including key free throws to lock up the game down the stretch.
Mohawk was led by senior Allison Price’s 16 points. Sophomore Chesley Trusty added 14 points.
Mohawk’s season comes to an end with a 9-14 overall record.
The Lady Redmen improved to 12-11 overall and will play Oak Harbor on Saturday evening at Port Clinton High School.
