Too little, too late for the Galion Graders on Sunday night as they fell to the Southern Ohio Copperheads by a score of 6-5. The Graders trailed 6-3 going into the bottom of the ninth before an error allowed both JT Core and Zach DeThomasis to score, leaving the Graders down one with one out.
With two on and one out, Austin Adams would ground into the 4-6-3 double play to end the game and the Graders’ rally. The Graders also struggled early on defensively as they had four errors on the evening.
Roscoe Blackburn got the win for the Copperheads who are now 14-9 on the year. He went six innings, striking out three and allowing two hits. Nick Muse got the loss for the Graders (6-15) going 4.2 and allowing two runs on six hits. DeThomasis was 2-2 with a run scored.
The Graders split their two-game series with the Licking County Settlers on Friday. Though the Graders blanked the Settlers 4-0 Thursday night, the Settlers returned the favor and defeated the hometown team 5-3.
The Graders host the Cincinnati Steam on Tuesday at Heise Park. First pitch is at 7:05.
