Girls basketball regular season play in north central Ohio has concluded and sectional tournaments begin on Wednesday night.

Buckeye Central (19-3) traveled to Lorain County Monday night to play LaGrange Keystone in a tune-up game. The Buckettes won 37-19, holding the hosts to 5 points in the second half.

Coach Abram Kaple’s club, the defending Division IV regional champions, have until 7:30 p.m. Saturday to rest and prepare. They await the winner of Thursday’s semifinal game between Crestline and Norwalk St. Paul.

Kate Siesel leads Buckeye Central with 13.9 points per game. Ryley Kantzer is next at 9.9 and 4 assists per game. Siesel is in the top 5 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in three-point shoot at 36% (58 of 161).

Deppen adds 9 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Paige Collene 4.5 boards. Deppen and Siesel scored 13 each in the season finale.

Kaple has used his substitutes to complement his 5 senior starters. With Sydney Wurm (9.1 ppg) out the past two games with an ankle injury, a trio of underclassmen have stepped in and played well — sophomores Nevaeh Metzger (who started in place of Wurm), Grace Collene and junior Ella Evak.

“We wanted them to get their feet a little wet as we head into the post season,” Kaple said. “Defensively, Nevaeh is a pest. With her energy, that’s how we use her to wear the other teams’ point guard down.”

The Buckettes won the N10 with a 13-1 mark, the lone loss coming to Wynford.
