Bucyrus held on for a four-point win Tuesday night over Mohawk in a girls N10 basketball game played at Bucyrus High School.
The Lady Redmen jumped out to a 10 point lead after the first period and led by as many as 14 in the second before Mohawk came back to tie the game at 22 late in the third period. Bucyrus went up by seven in the final period only to see Mohawk close to within a point. Bucyrus’ Gabby Siebert made two field goals late in the period to put Bucyrus ahead and give them their fourth win of the season and improve to 2-1 in the league.
Bucyrus Kelci Simms scored 8 of her game high 12 points in the final period to be the only Lady Redmen to finish in double digits.
Chelsey Trusty led Mohawk with 11.
Mohawk won the JV game 41-18. Katie Pinkston had 14 points and Anna Stillberger 10 to lead Mohawk, Bucyrus scoring was led by Kiana Zahner with 12.
Bucyrus is currently 2 – 1 in league play, defeating Crestline 81 – 14 on Dec. 6 but falling to Seneca East 52 – 31 on Dec. 12. The Lady Redmen are 4 – 2 overall. Their next game will be at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20 at home against Colonel Crawford.
Wynford’s road trip to Carey ended in a 53 – 47 loss for the Lady Royals Tuesday night. Ellie Richmond led the Royals in scoring for the night with 26. Carey’s Sydney Wentling totaled 22 points, including hitting all four of her team’s three-pointers during the game.
Wynford made four of nine three-pointers during the game versus Carey’s four of 20. Carey, however, outshot the Lady Royals in the free throws, making 11 of 13 against Wynford’s 3 of 13.
Also scoring for Wynford were Sarah Ogden (8), Gretchen Harris (7), Maci Cooper (4), and Mallory Moore (2).
Wynford is currently 1 – 2 in league play, falling to Ridgedale on Dec. 9 but beating the Lady Eagles 49 – 47 on Dec. 12. The Lady Royals are 2 – 4 overall. The next Wynford girls basketball game is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 20 at home against Mohawk.
