Galion scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth Thursday to win a Division III baseball sectional title. With the 3-2 win over Margaretta, the Tigers advance to district play starting Thursday at Madison Comprehensive School.
Margaretta scored first in the game in the second inning when James Fisher led off the inning with a base hit and then stole second. He was sacrificed to third and came home on a fielder’s choice.
Galion got the lead in the third with a pair of unearned runs. With two outs, Tyler Castline singled. He came home on a base hit by Josh Eckert that Margaretta had a double error on. Eckert scored on a single by Matt Hardy. Margaretta got an unearned run of their own to tie the game in the fifth.
With two outs in the ninth, the Tigers’ Will Donahue reached on a throwing error that put him at second base. Castline drove him home with his fourth hit of the game.
Matt Hardy picked up the win for Galion in relief of starter Garrett Kuns. The two combined to throw a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
Margaretta’s Fisher took the loss. He and starter Jacob Luma allowed 10 hits and struck out six.
