Galion and Mohawk are sending three wrestlers each to next weekend’s OHSAA Wrestling State Tournament.
The three-day event begins Friday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center. Finals are Sunday afternoon.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state tournament from district meets.
Division II at Norwalk
The Tigers qualified Gradey Harding at 126, who won first place via a 5-2 tiebreaker over Zavian LaFountain of Wauseon.
Carter Trukovich at 132 and Ryder Alberty at 138 both finished second for head coach Brent Tyrrell.
Trukovich dropped a 5-0 decision to Tate Hisey of St. Marys Memorial. Alberty (31-9) lost to Anthony Oscar of Clear Fork, 5-4.
Two are making return appearances.
Harding (38-4) placed second last season at 120, while Trukovich, also 38-4, placed fifth as a freshman.
Brice McDaniel (27-13) finished sixth at 175, via a pin at 4:59 to Norwalk’s Kevin Howard.
Galion took 11th as a team in the 40-plus school field.
Division III at Rossford
Mohawk’s trio of Owen Patrizi at 132, Kaden Bish at 175 and Brant Kirian at 138 also earned a trip to the Schott.
Patrizi (36-9) won an 8-0 major decision over Delta’s Richard Flores to take top honors.
Bish (31-4) dropped a technical fall 17-2, to Luke James of Milan Edison, to finish second. Kirian (22-6) secured third place with a 2-1 decision over Swanton’s Chase Godwin.
Lance Frankart (20-11) finished sixth at 165 pounds.
The Warriors placed ninth as a team in the 51-team field.
Seneca East’s lone qualifier is Alex Young at 215. Young (41-10) lost a 7-5 decision to Parker Bixler of Archbold.
Bucyrus’ Grady Weber (35-15) fell in the third consolation round to Landon Massie of Liberty Center, 9-3.
The 126-pounder was the Redmen’s lone district qualifier and was 2-2. Weber ends his junior season with 98 wins.
Division III at Troy
Northmor’s Carson Campbell made it at 157. Campbell (43-5) lost by default to Brogan Tucker of Graham Local in the championship round.
Graham Local cruised to another district team title.
Other Golden Knights competing included Carter Thomas, sixth at 113, Ethan Amens fifth at 120 and Cowin Becker, fifth at 144.
Elgin is sending a pair of grapplers with Cooper Schlaegel, first place at 126, and Quinten Harrison, third place at 157.
Ayden O’Dell of Pleasant got fourth place at 113 pounds to qualify. Landon Schrader took home fifth place at 132.
Mount Gilead’s duo of Rocco Castricone at 106 and Cody Meimer at 285 both finished in fourth place and qualified.
Castricone is 33-12 and Meimer 37-8.
Division II at Wilmington
River Valley’s Karson Jenkins (39-4) took first place at 113. Viking teammate Drew Goldberg (39-10) took sixth at 285. Full district results can be found at https://www.baumspage.com/wr/index.php
